Host Jon Stewart began to wonder whether President Donald Trump was under the influence of “psychoactive drugs” after signing his name in a very strange way on a new law.
The topic was brought up during Monday’s (20) episode of The Daily Show, in which Stewart addressed the “strange” signature Trump made on a new law to speed up the FDA process for “new treatments with psychedelic drugs” aimed at helping “veterans suffering from all forms of PTSD and other psychiatric conditions, including addiction.”
Even after admitting that Trump did something good by signing the new law, Stewart couldn’t help but notice the very strange signature the American president left on the document.
This was compounded by the fact that footage of the signing also showed Trump struggling to pronounce the word ibogaine, a psychoactive drug used to treat substance use disorders, PTSD, and depression.
At one point, Trump also claimed that users experience “an 80 to 90% reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety within a month,” to which the president joked: “Can I have some, please? I’ll take it. I’ll accept it, whatever it is.”
“Ah, wow. He’s depressed too! Hey, don’t be depressed, sir. Trump won’t be president forever,” Stewart reacted. Trump, however, was quick to deny the claim that he suffers from depression. In the signing video, he emphasized: “I don’t have time to be depressed. If you stay busy enough, maybe that works too. That’s what I do.”
This put Stewart on alert, adding: “I don’t think Donald Trump should treat this with hallucinogens, but if he did, would we notice? If he took them, he’d be like: ‘They’re eating the cats and dogs! Right next to my beautiful ballroom. By the way, did you know I’m Jesus?’” the host joked.
Turning his attention back to the new law, Stewart continued: “You know what? Maybe he’s already taken them, given how intensely he focused on signing this bill. I mean, he signed […] this bill.”
After Trump showed his signature to the camera and bragged about the “good job,” Stewart began imitating an addicted person, saying: “Hey man… Have you ever really looked at your signature… on weed?”
He then called the way Trump signed the bill “really freaking weird.” “I’m looking at that signature now — does that say Donald Trump? The last name is longer than his first name! It doesn’t look like D… it looks like it says ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd‘. It makes no sense!” he analyzed.
“That’s a lot of letters… I would make sure this executive order is legal, because it looks like it was signed by David Hasselhoff,” Stewart joked.
